Strategic Planning

Strategic Information and Process Planning

No strategic plan is complete without an information systems (IS) plan. This plan should be developed and updated to monitor, measure and ensure that:

• IS department’s performance is meeting the organization’s goals
• Information technology ROI is defined and measurable
• IS objectives and direction align with the organization’s strategic plan

IHS' strategic plans include:

Strategic assessment

• Defining critical success factors of the healthcare organization (e.g., mission   statement goals and
objectives that the healthcare organization must meet to be a successful entity)
• Identifying the data used by management to determine whether the goals are   being attained
• Identifying the application system sources for the strategic data

Operational assessment
Assessing the strengths and weaknesses of current systems, their operational utility and compatibility with strategic goals

Technical assessment
Assessing the information systems organization, procedures, technical capabilities and user interaction to determine the effect on current and future direction.

Plan Development
Reviewing findings with executive management and setting priorities for system acquisition or development. Based upon our assessment and system priorities, we prepare:

• Budgets that outline all hardware, software, staff and other associated costs
• Reports that highlight key data processing and operations issues and   considerations
• Implementation schedules that identify key activity and issue milestones
• Staffing analyses that identify resource requirements
